Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) at HIV Counseling and Testing (VCT) and Out-patient Clinics (OPC) in Hanoi, Vietnam

Hanoi Medical University in the collaboration with University of California, Los Angeles (USA) is in preparations for conducting a pilot study “Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) at VCT and OPC in Vietnam.”  Based on the context of Vietnam in which there is a substantial relationship between HIV and drug use, it is important for health professionals in Vietnam HIV centers to evaluate the drug and alcohol use of patients in these settings and effectively address these problems.

The overall goal of the study is to evaluate the feasibility of conducting SBIRT at VCT and OPC in Vietnam; provide the amounts as well as types of the current situation of drug and alcohol use in these settings; and carry out the short-term evaluation of the impact of brief intervention on drug and alcohol use and the treatment for those referred.

Currently, the study is in preparation for training courses for the period of Jan 13 - 17, 2014.  The pilot study is proposed to be conducted in March.
