PEPFAR group visit at Nam Tu Liem Medical Center
In October 2018, within the framework of activities supported by PEPFAR and SAMHSA, the Center for Training and Research on Substance Abuse-HIV, in collaboration with Nam Tu Liem Medical Center, was completed eight weeks of intervention for methadone patients who used amphetamine-type stimulants at Nam Tu Liem methadone clinic. After eight weeks of intervention, the initial results showed that the patients were interested and willingly involved in the intervention program. Further, the use of ATS, as well as mental health problems, tended to decrease after the intervention. Patients and health-care workers who are directly involved in the intervention program also shared their desire that the program will continue in the future and extend the time to help this group, especially those were high-risk, further improve their health status.
On October 17, 1818, representatives of PEPFAR and SAMHSA visited and worked at Nam Tu Liem Medical Center. During the meeting, Dr. Nguyen Thu Trang - Director of Nam Tu Liem Medical Center - introduced the activities at Nam Tu Liem Medical Center, including prevention and treatment activities for drug users and HIV patients. At the meeting, Associate Prof. Dr. Le Minh Giang - Deputy Director of Center for Training and Research on Substance Abuse-HIV, Hanoi Medical University - presented some preliminary results after eight-weeks intervention on amphetamine-type stimulants at Nam Tu Liem Medical Center.
